Iphone 3g Ios 4.0.1 Install Problem!!!

Hi, I plugged my iPhone into my iMac to install the new iOS 4.0.1 update, all was going as normal, but when the iPhone rebooted it just hung at the loading bar, and I've waited an hour and the loading bar has't moved, it's empty and in iTunes the bar is 1/4th filled, I'm scared to unplug my iPhone, WHAT SHOULD I DO!

i'm having severe problems as well, it keeps crashing out giving itunes error 9. i've tried on windows, rebooted, used different usb port, repaired permissions, etc. nothing is working.
