Firstly, I know this is posted a lot, or I know that it probably is.
But I've been having some serious issues with my iPhone 3G.

Now, please have some pity on this particular n00b, as he will be asking multiple questions.

I have my iPhone currently running 4.1 un-jailbroken, and not unlocked.
Hell, I can't even use it, seeing as I have a T-Mobile SIM.
For the past few hours I've been unfruitlessly trying to jailbreak 4.1 with Sn0wBreeze 2.2. The funny thing is, I'm doing everything right ... I think.

I'm on a fresh restore of 4.1 (from jailbroken and unlocked 4.0.1), I have a 4.1 iPhone 3G IPSW that I've been using with Sn0wbreeze, and iTunes 10.1 etc.

The problem is when I try to restore, using iREB to get to a jailbreakable state (DFU and whatnot), using iTunes I Shift-Click and select my custom IPSW. Everything goes hunky-dory until my iPhone gets stuck at a screen where it won't move past a white progress bar under either a Sn0wBreeze or Apple logo.

My iPhone has the 5.08 Bootloader and 5.14.02 Baseband.

I need three things answered:

1. How can I jailbreak my iPhone without losing my Baseband or Bootloader? (Or : How can I jailbreak so that unlock is possible?)

2. From that point, how do I unlock?

3. Would I need to update to 4.2.1?
(But wouldn't that mess with my BB and BL?)

4. Can someone make their answer straightforward and with numbered order? (Guides I've found with Google have been a pain in the ass) :p

Bless the soul who helps this helpless n00b.

1. Use Redsn0w to jailbreak your phone. go to Iclarified for tutorial on how to jailbreak/unlock your Iphone.
2. Once you jailbreak your phone. Since your bootloader is 05.08. You need to go to Cydia to install fuzzyband to downgrade your baseband. Currently, there is no unlock for baseband 05.14. Once your baseband has downgrade, then install Ultrasn0w 1.2 to unlock your phone.
3. you don't need to update to 4.2.1

Good luck.

Thankyou for all the replys! :D
I'm successfully Jailbroken and unlocked on 4.1.

The only issue that is bugging me is that my iPhone is laggy.
Like when I switch apps, or open folders. It all seems a bit delayed.
Is this just 4.1? Can it be fixed with 4.2?

My brother has a iPT 3rd Gen. (32GB) that is running perfectly (no lag whatsoever) on 4.2.1.
Why isn't my iPhone at least close to it in terms of speed and lag?

Yours is 3G and his is 3GS. S stands for speed.

My recommendation is to downgrade your 3G to firmware to 3.1.3. You will not see the lagging issue.

So in terms of speed, his iPod Touch is faster then my iPhone 3g?
Correct me if I'm wrong but why is this the case?
