Just thought I would take a minute to write about my microphone failure experience. First off, this isn't a bashing thread. I love that freaking phone and other than the mic actually failing I was very happy with Apple over this whole thing.

Recently people started not being able to hear me when they called. It was random at first. Then the mic stopped working all together. I searched the web and found the "clean the headphone jack" repair and the "pull headphone in and out" trick. That seemed to randomly help. These seemed to be fixes for speaker and mic not working problems. My speaker always worked fine. Also turning bluetooth on and off and restoring with iTunes seemed to randomly help. It was random though so my guess was hardware failure. To be honest, like many folks, I have dropped the phone and my 3 yr old loves to play with it but it has held up suprisingly well.

Anyway, on to the moral of the story. I called Apple, told them all I had done. They said to send it in and they would repair it or send my a new one. They also offered to ship me a new (or refurbished I guess) on first for 30 bucks. My phone is still under warranty but I do not have Apple Care. If I did they would've waived the 30 bucks. I took the 30 buck deal on Monday, the new phone was at my house on Tuesday.

Basically I backed up my old phone on Itunes. Erased the old phone. Swapped sim cards. Restored the new phone on Itunes and that was it. Put the old phone back in the FEDEX box and sent it off.

Hopefully the new phone won't have problems but I can say that I'm very happy with Apple's response and customer service. I know everyone doesn't always have the same experieince but I thought I'd pass mine along.
