IPhone 3G not connecting to Wifi

My son's IPhone 3G will not connect to our Wifi. We have a2wire772 router. I have read on some post that a 3G will not connect to certain types of routers. i need help, please anyone.:( I have reset the phone and checked for the Wifi turned on and it is.
