My mom's iPhone started up this morning, and it had the connect to iTunes screen. Except this time it didn't fix itself when it was restarted, so we actually connected it to iTunes. After about 5 minutes of being connected a message appeared in iTunes that said "iTunes can not activate your phone because the SIM card is not inserted or a SIM pin is required". I've already taken the SIM card out to make sure it's in the right way. Now, I'm stumped and need a bit of help. If anybody can help I'd really appreciate it.

Is it the original carrier's sim card you are inserting, or a jailbroken phone with a different sim card? Is it a 2G or 3G iPhone?

I presume you've tried cleaning the sim card to make sure there is nothing preventing contact.

Thanks for the reply... Turns out it was the phone itself. We made an appointment at the genius bar, and they gave us a new phone on the spot. :D
