Iphone 3g on a new computer?

So my old computer crashed, and i lost everything, now i have my iphone 3g, running 3.1.2 or something, and i want to update it and start using it with my new PC.

I transferred the purchases, and got everything on the new itunes it seems, but when i go to update it it says it will all be deleted because its a different computer than the one it was originally synced with...

Also, when i finally said **** it and did the update anyway it says the iphone cannot be restored, error 2001.

Any tips?
