iPhone 3G reboots right after going into DFU mode after downgrade

I was able to downgrade my wife's 3G from 4.0 to 3.1.3 okay following these instructions.

Long story short, I want to go back to 4.0 (mainly to get data from the backup), but now when I try to upgrade, as soon as I see the USB/iTunes icon on the iPhone, it will reboot.

Is there anything I can do from here?
