I am trying to get my old 3G iphone ready to transfer to a new owner. It is currently running iOS 4.0 and I wanted to restore it to 4.0 by trying to restore in iTunes using a iOS 4.0 ipsw file. I keep getting errors on my PC and my Mac saying the device is not eligible to be restored OR on the PC I get error 3194.

I have tried everything but no luck. The phone is no longer activated but it works as an iPod. Can I just go into Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings without worrying about the phone needing to be reactivated afterward?

I just want to erase it completely but still be able to use it as an iPod.

Thanks
