iphone 3G running on 4.01--Weak or No Wifi Connection

I updated my iphone 3G from 3.1.3 to 4.01 and jailbroke & unlocked the phone using redsn0w & ultrasn0w.

I have noticed that Wifi is faintly detected or not at all when more than 3 feet away from the wifi thingie. Can anyone please help? I'm on tmobile network....
