iPhone 3G shuts off after boot screen

I just started having this problem a couple hours ago after I tried to turn my phone on. The phone loads up the boot screen with the white apple logo and stays stuck on there for about 15 seconds, then the device shuts off. I have tried to put the phone in DFU mode and it won't even let me restore. Please help!!!

It will go into DFU, you just gotta keep trying till you get it timed right.

Common problem. Perhaps link them to a video?

I was on a phone call, so couldn't search for my link to a video, but that'll work. IDK about the 7 seconds and the 2 seconds, because I don't do that, but if it works, okay. I just hold home and power until the screen goes back and then continue holding home until I get the beep in iTunes. Every once in awhile I have to start over, but mostly I get it into DFU.

Finally got my phone into recovery mode...now it won't restore because it's giving me "error 2001". *SIGH*
