iPhone 3G tmobile data

Alright, so I currently have the original iPhone, it's great, however, the speed of the data network leaves much to be desired.

If I buy a 3G iPhone, can I use the 3G network with t-mobile? Will this help the data connection be faster? Or, am I just stuck with a dirt slow connection?

tmobile use a different type of 3g so it will not work with the iphone..

Ah, I'll just have to look into other options. Blah.. I didn't want to have to go G1
