Iphone 3G unlockable?

I really want the Iphone 3G for it's GPS capability, and obviously it's 3G speeds. But I have t-mobile and a blackberry with 18 months left on my contract. Is there anyway the new Iphone is able to be unlocked? Especially since you have to have a contract when you buy. How long did it take for the 1st gen Iphone to be unlocked?

i'm not really sure if it is, but a 3G iphone on ebay is going for over $1K, so it will be must cheaper is u just pay the ETF to tmobile and switch to at&t and pick one up for $199
