iphone 3g update

I'm currently at 3.1.2 and I want to restore to 4.2.1 which is the final firmware update for the 3G, because i'm stuck at apple logo...will i still be signed by apple servers? because i'm afraid i wont be able to get back on 3.1.2 and I dont have any shsh blobs saved
