Iphone 3g wifi jailbreak

I jailbreak my friends iphone, he does not use the internet because he does not have the internet plan. Long story short he got the iphone from a girl and jus put his sim in so yeah. He only can go on the internet when he connects to wifi. I jailbroke it with Jailbreakme.com everything was fine but than when i open cydia the wifi goes away! it says its on but it isnt showing up. Any ideas
