I am currently trying to configure NetShare again. I don't want to buy PDAnet (I'm cheap) and I don't want to jailbreak (I'm lazy).

I've configured my Macbook Air according to the instructions found in the NetShare Application and the iPhone is also configured according to the instructions in the NetShare application.

The 2.2 firmware seems to have a problem with ad-hoc wifi. I can put the IP into the "Static" menu after connecting to the ad-hoc wifi network on the Macbook Air, but the iPhone refuses to remember the information no matter what information is entered into it.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to correct this?

The solution that I found was as follows:

1) Create the ad-hoc wifi network on your notebook.
2) Tap Settings on your iPhone
3) Tap Wifi
4) Tap the blue circle beside your ad-hoc wifi network

This needs to be done before your phone actually connects to the ad-hoc wifi network. You should not have a checkmark beside the name of the ad-hoc wifi network when tapping the blue circle.

5) Set the Static IP Address and Subnet
6) Connect to the Wifi network normally by tapping to the left of the blue circle on the ad-hoc wifi network name.

That allowed me to actually keep the IP Address information I entered in place.

Your mileage may vary. Use this post at your own risk. :D
