Okay so my iPhone 3G won't turn on. It was working perfectly fine until it just shut off when I was using it. Now it won't turn on. If i press the lock button to power it back up, it powers up as usual, showing the apple logo. Then, a few seconds later, the apple logo disappears and the screen goes black and it shuts off again. I tried charging it but it didn't help. It was on full battery before it shut off on me. I don't know what to do. I can't use my phone and I need it!

Any help please?! I really need my phone to work ASAP. I can't even get to the Apple store until Friday because all appointments are booked until then. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Did you try holding the power button and the home button down at the same time....till the apple logo shows up....this might work....

This happened to me when I first bought my 3G..it took a lot of work for AT+T to get it to power back up.....

The only other thing is to do a restore from your computer and get it to start working again....

Yes I did that. I held down the home and power button the same time but all it does is show the apple logo and then it disappears again and the screen is black. I tried plugging it into my computer to do a restore on iTunes but it doesn't even recognize my iPhone.

Connect to iTunes and hold power button for 10 sec then hold home and power button for 10 sec then let go of power button and continue holding the home button until a white screen appears and let go. Restore

Me too!

Mine is doing the SAME THING!!!

I tried all of the suggestions but nothing has worked...HELP!

I just had the very same issue with my phone. I had tried everything I could think of..... and searched online for solutions. Found many but none worked until..............I just tried yours. YOU are the man!! Thanks so much. It worked like a charm.

Simplest solution worked for me.

Holding down the power and home button for longer than 10 sec got me the apple screen which then seemed to take forever, but then booted up like normal. Everything was intact, pictures, files, etc. Today was a lucky day!:D

Yah

Thank you so much Alpha for sharing the tip on how to turn on your Iphone - what a life saver.:):)

it worked

alphaspida, you're heaven sent it worked on my iphone3g i thought i'd lose all my files since its not turning on... bless you dear soul

Mine is a brick

I have tried all variations of plugging, charging, home/off button, etc. and nothing will get the phone to wake up. Am I dealing with an instant battery death? It was working fine yesterday. I even installed a new app on it yesterday morning. My wife used it later last night. This morning: brick.

Any other ideas or tips? Is this a subtle sign to buy a new phone?

Thanks.

Tj

Try DFU restore:

Plug into computer with iTunes open > hold sleep/wake button and home button for 8 seconds > then release sleep/wake button (still holding home button) > wait for iTunes to recognize phone in restore mode... restore.

If that doesn't work... Have you dropped it recently? There could be a cable loose... What kind of shape is the phone in?
