Iphone 3g

I was wondering if anyone of you could help me out, I have searched and searched and can not find an answer. I have a 3gs and from what I can tell is that they only came in 8gb and higher. The one I have only shows that it has a 6.2gb capacity and I was wondering if that is normal or not?

Some is lost in the actual storage measurement conversions, they aren't completely accurate, plus the OS and apps take up space.

I know the apps take up space but like I said it say it only has 6 and some change on it, I know with my old 3g it said that it had 8gb

I never see any 3G, 8gb has a maximum capacity of 8gb when you go into setting, general, about and see it is 8gb.

Also, the latest firmware is bigger in size than previous ones.

My 32gb Iphone 4s says I only have 28.2GB. some of the space is used by the operating system, and im sure some is used for other important functions as well.
