Hello,

I've been reading through several forums/websites about this topic, but I can't find an answer to my exact question. Maybe someone can help me here? Or point me in the right direction...?

I have an iPhone 3GS - 3.1.3 firmware, 5.12.01 bootrom, and I Jailbroke it with Spirit (due to new bootrom) and Unlocked it with ultrasn0w. I have never updated it past 3.1.3.

I would like to update to 4.0.2, but I understand that there is no working jailbreak for 4.0.2 if you broke with Spirit. OK, I can live with that. So would I be able to have a jailbroken phone on 4.0.1?

Here's the confusing part...

Can I update my phone to 4.0.2, then downgrade to 4.0.1, and apply the Jailbeakme.com jailbreak to it? Then Unlock with ultrasn0w again?

OR

Can I "restore" my phone to 4.0.1 using iTunes and a downloaded 4.0.1 ipsw file, even though I have never upgraded to 4.0.1? According to Cydia, I have the 4.0 and 4.0.1 SHSH backed up on their servers. That's confusing, since I've never actually upgraded to 4.0 or 4.0.1...

I would basically like to upgrade my phone to the iPhone 4 software from 3.1.3, but obviously it needs to be jailbroken because it needs to be unlocked (I'm living abroad now).

Thanks to any and all that can give some advice and help a girl out.
