I've read that 3.1.2 on an iPhone 3GS can be unlocked using blacksnow with the updated baseband 5.11.07.

This YouTube video shows it being done:

If this is true, the 3.2.1 is unlock-able and usable for T-Mobile. Can anyone verify this? Thanks!

Yes, that is correct.
Baseband 05.11.07 can be unlocked using blacksnow.
And the firmware is 3.1.2

Ah, my bad, 3.1.2. Unfortunately I just realized the baseband on my 3GS 4.0 is 05.13.04. Not good for jailbreaking. :(

I did some research and found a site that has a custom 4.0 IPSW that is confirmed to work on iPhone 3GS only but with 5.11.XX or below. I'm looking into 05.13.04 jailbreaks and unlocks. The iPhone Dev. team claims to have jailbroken iOS 4.0 Gold Master with baseband 05.13.04 but will not release it until either Apple releases 4.0 or iPhone 4. Time will tell.

There is currently no way to jailbreak your iPhone unless you have saved your SHSH and can downgrade to 3.x. There is also no way to unlock the 05.13.04 baseband. You must wait.

Yep, all you can do is wait for the official JB for 4.0 and hopefully an unlock soon.

What's more, I can't even downgrade to 3.1.2 7D11 as Apple needs to be contacted in order to verify the firmware signature for the device. I've attempted to use "Umbrella", which is supposed to work around the issue during the restore process. However I don't have SHSH's for my iPhone 3GS. Brutally rebuffed lol.

EDIT: I did jailbreak an older 3GS but had it replaced with as it was defective. I still have the custom IPSW for 3.1.2, is there any way in getting that to work? Or obtaining an SHSH? Truthfully I'm simply learning for the sake of learning, I can wait for the 4.0 JB. Thanks!

Yep, nothing you can do.
And even if you did have your SHSH's available for firmware 3.1.2 for example the baseband has been updated and that cannot be downgraded on a 3GS model in order to be unlocked. You could only JB it.
So again nothing you can do now but wait.
No other options.

Ok, so if I simply want to JB, and I have my old custom 3.1.2 IPSW, is there any way to restore my 3GS with that IPSW or obtain my SHSH? Thanks!

Nope, no way to get your SHSH's now since Apple stopped releasing them on February 2nd when 3.1.3 came out.
You can JB your current 3.1.3 firmware with spirit though.
The iphone has to be officially activated.

A-HA. Ok, I'll attempt with 3.1.3. Thanks!

EDIT: It worked. Restored to 3.1.3. Now going to jailbreak it using Spirit, get an SHSH, then restore to the custom 4.0 IPSW. :)

All this is fine. Be aware, though, that your baseband has already been upgraded and there is no way to unlock your phone.
