Can the iPhone (3G or 3GS) put out enough juice to satisfy the needs of headphones that recommend the use of an amp, like the Grado Labs PS1000, Sennheiser HD800, or AKG 272HD or 701?

If you are going to spend this much on headphones and want true audiophile sound you are going to want to bypass the headphone out anyways, using a line out cable like this one:http://www.ramelectronics.net/ipod-...o-rt-angle-mini-plug-cable/prodIFEPDMRCB.html

And then connect an amp. Trust me, it will improve your sound a million times over. I use that cable and a portable headphone amp with my Shure se530s and it sounds really good.

awesome little cable man! thanks for the tip

Definitely not enough power out of the headphone jack for headphones like that. You would need a pre-amp for something like that

Not super high end, but you can get away with Sennheiser HD595. I am using it now and it sounds fine. But it does sound better with nice amp.

I just laughed my ass off.

You're going to listen to MP3s with those?

:eek::confused::p:p:p:p:p:p

Maybe he will listen to Apple Lossless on them, which, last time I checked, sounds exactly like the CD they were ripped from.

probably an audio format that is worth using these type of headphones which would otherwise be limited by the mediocre quality of mp3
