iPhone 3GS (4.1) and jailbreaking for tethering

I have the iPhone 3GS with the latest software.
Is it still possible for me to jailbreak to get free internet tethering?
Going to San Fran soon and I was trying to get myself some internet.

If it is, what's the easiest way? And how do I get free tethering?
I know there is a cool app that makes a hotspot but cost $5.
 
No. You will not get free tethering. Ever. Never.
You can get tethering with ATT which will cost you an extra 20 dollars for it but limit you to 2 GB.

or

You can jailbreak and download an app which you will let you tether for 20 dollars but with unlimited date.

Tried google but nothing ever worked or was out of date.

But I found through youtube cracked TetherMe app for free.

this will tell you if you can jailbreak and what to use

then after you are jailbroke you can go into cydia and search for an app called tetherme. it will cost you $2 but its great! it wont create a wifi hotspot like mywi will but you just plug into your computer with your data cable and BAM!
 
I just bought mywi. I can honestly say it is the best 20 dollars you can spend. Don't let the price tag scare you away, worth every penny.
 
I bought TetherMe.. I used the MyWi trial and didn't like it as it used battery very quickly and would make the back of my 3GS lava hot.

Odd. Every half hour was about 5% battery power and mine didn't get too hot. Weird.

Assuming obviously that you have a data plan you can use many different JB apps to tether your data to other devices.
Mywi is the most popular one and it creates a wifi hotspot, also tetherme and PDAnet are good options.
 
First, don't pirate.

Second, as of right now, I don't think there are any comcenter hacks which will allow "free" tethering.

Tetherme is cheaper than MyWi, but MyWi makes a mobile hotspot, so you decide what you need.
 
Can someone explain the difference to me between WiFi Tethering and USB tethering on the MyWi app? I was under the impression that USB tethering provided a faster download rate than WiFi tethering. Is this correct?

However, when I turned off the WiFi tethering, the internet on my laptop stopped altogether...so I'm not sure how to use the USB tethering without the WiFi.

Any simple explanations to my 2 issues above would be much a appreciated by an ignorant dummy like myself:)

My iPhone 3Gs on 4.1 JB has tethering on it :confused:

Same for my unlocked 3G which works great.

When u turn off the wifi tethering you have to turn on USB tethering that's all. And have the latest iTunes version installed on the computer you want to tether to.

Hmmm, now my phone is not showing up in iTunes. Is this a cause of jailbreaking the phone? Is the fact that the phone isnt showing in iTunes the reason the MyWi USB option is not working for me?

Not sure why your iphone is not beeing recognized. Its not because its JB though.
Maybe try restarting both the computer and iphone.

Are you sure its not because of JB? It was showing up just fine in iTunes earlier today before I JB'd it and installed Cydia and MyWi.

So do you have any idea what else might be the problem here? I have restarted both my machine and the iPhone, but it still does not show up in iTunes.
