iPhone 3GS 4.1. Jailbreak/Unlock confusion

Hey guys,

I got an iPhone 3GS running 4.1 and 05.14.02

I googled a couple of times and watched videos on how to jailbreak and unlock, but i am confused because there always seems to be some issues with different basebands and so on.

Also there are several apps for that. redsnow, makeitrain etc.

I simply want to unlock and jailbreak the iphone.

What itunes version do I use?
Which jailbreak/ unlock is the best to use?
Where do I get a decent explanation or tutorial for this?

Sorry to bother you guys, but the internet seems like a jungle of contradicting information to me.

I would appreciate your help

It says there is no unlock for my baseband yet...
Does that mean I just have to wait? Or is there any other way?

Are there any estimates when an unlock and jailbreak will be available for that baseband?
 
If I updated the firmware via itunes, the baseband wouldn`t change?

I just don`t understand why amongst ALL of these unlocks, apps etc. it doesn`t work for mine.

If you update it with Itunes right now, your baseband will also change to the latest baseband in the OS5. If you want to preserve your Iphone baseband, you will have to update it with customs/cook firmware by using sn0wbreeze or pwnage tool.
 
Well obviously I dont want to keep my baseband if it prevents me from getting it unlocked...

So If I updates it to iOs5, the baseband would change and i got a chance to jailbreak unlock?

I think it is time for you to read all the stickies in this forum to learn on all of these first.
 
Hey guys, So I used the ipad baseband method by redsn0w and i got the new baseband and cydia installed... When i install ultrasn0w it always says that "cellular data network could not be activated"

Could that be caused by an invalid Sim? Bacause my plan ran out (->unlock)

Or is that something different?
