iPhone 3GS 4.2.1 - Can I upgrade and unlock?

I have an iPhone 3GS on firmware 4.2.1 and baseband 05.15.04. Can I upgrade to 4.3.? and then jailbreak and unlock? I've read around and see info of using the iPad baseband but that becomes permanent and I don't want to do that.
I realize that I can jailbreak this version fine (untethered and all) but I need to get the unlock as well.


Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
