  • Have a hotmail account
  • Synced with iPhone via Microsoft Exchange
  • Always worked, never a problem
  • Then....
  • Updated iphone the other day to 4.3.5 and now just says:

  • Exchange Account
    Unable verify account information

or tells me the password is incorrect ....which it is not.

Tried as many fixes as I can find online:

Deleting the account and reinstalling - does not work - and now means I have NO contacts as all contacts in Hotmail not on the phone!!!

Capitalising the first letter of my email address - does not work

Turning it off and on again - does not work

Areoplane mode off and on again - does not work

Turning wi-fi off and using vodafone network - does not work

Switching SSL off - does not work

Screaming at it in a fit of rage - DOES NOT WORK!

    Any advice to fix this??
(Not very IT savy so jargon free advice please, Thanks)

Crazy possibility - Password too long

Hi piratepratt,

I had a similar problem a few days ago. It solved when I changed my 19 digit password to a shorter one. For some strange reason, my iPhone 4 and iPod Touch started showing "Unable to verify account information" (Mail App) and "Wrong ID or Password" (MSN Messenger) messages. Seems like my phone couldn't send the whole password, because it was too long.

This used to happen with all apps that had to do with hotmail. Even the MSN Messenger App didn't work until I shortened my password to 14 digits.

Hope this helps, 'cause nobody seems to realize this tiny detail.

Good luck.

This worked for me:

In settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendar -> Add Account -> Microsoft Exchange.

Enter FULL email address on BOTH "Email" and "Username". Eg: abc@hotmail.com
