It's about 2 years old and today out of the blue, the screen just went black. I charged it and it rings when I call it, but the screen stays black. Is there any reset command that I can do without seeing the screen to try to jumpstart the screen?
Thanks for any ideas.

Press and hold power button & home button for about 10 to 15 second. Let it go and then turn on on normally to see if it works.

There are couple things might happen if the above method doesn't work;

1. The LCD connector may be popping off and that the reason you can't see anything on screen.
2. Bad LCD.

Thank you!

That did it! Thank you very much!
But I take it as a warning sign and will queue up for the 4s......
