iphone 3gs app updates error message 1004

My iphone 3gs (software 4.3.5) will not update apps... keep getting annoying error 1004-try later, error message. The phone and MB Pro updates are current. I'm not finding much info online as to how to remedy this situation. Any help would be appreciated.

Error 1004

Go to 'Settings' -> 'General' -> 'Reset' -> 'Reset All Settings'
