I've recently (yesterday) began having a problem with the iTunes backup/sync process of my iPhone 3GS.

When I sync, I get the message:
"iTunes could not backup the iPhone "******'s iPhone" because the backup could not be saved on the computer.

I've done some google searching on the issue, and have already performed the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Confirmed ample available free space on the computer.
  • Changed USB ports.
  • Deleted the old backups from the MobileSync folder.
  • Repaired Permissions.
  • Tried changing Time Zone.
  • Re-Installed iTunes.
  • Hard Reset the iPhone.
  • Reset Sync History.
  • Deleted the iPod Photo Cache from iPhoto.
  • Disabled Photo sync in iTunes.

The message appears while on step 5 of 5 in the sync. There is a backup folder being re-created in the MobileSync directory, but the backup is not shown in iTunes.

Relevant information:
  • Core Duo 2.0GHz MacBook Pro with 2GB ram.
  • 29GB Free HDD space.
  • OS 10.6.4 with all available updates installed.
  • iTunes 10.
  • iPhone 3GS 32GB.

I would greatly appreciate any troubleshooting tips that anyone might be able to provide. Thanks in advance.

Chris
