In iOS 5 there is a baseband upgrade to 5.20.00. Does this upgrade still happen if your baseband is on the iPad one? 6.15.00

No, since the 5.0 beta baseband is a lower number version than the ipads baseband 06.15.00 the baseband will not update and the firmware will not install and will be stuck on recovery.
So this basically means that if my iPhone has the iPad baseband, until the dev team releases a way to downgrade, no iOS 5?
As you knew before I hope, once you install the ipad bb you cannot restore your iphone to any stock firmware any more.
You have to wait for custom JB ipsw's to be released using pwnage tool or a way to somehow downgrade your baseband version. Either will do but till them no stock firmware will load.
Oh ok. I haven't upgraded the baseband yet, but now am stuck. I got the 3GS from a friend for only $100 knowing I might be able to only use it as an iPod, but would like to use it as a phone. Is there any new info on unlocking 5.16.02?

Not sure if you can use a gevey turbo sim on a 3GS.
I heard people using the iphone 4 gevey sim adapter before with turbo sim and microsim adapters but sounds like it could be a pain in the a$$.

There has been zero news from the Dev Team regarding that baseband for months. I would not bet on them doing anything more with it. My guess is that when iOS 5 and iPhone 4S/5 are released, their efforts will all go towards finding a way to jailbreak/unlock that.

Noone knows but my guess is they are waiting for the official 5.0 ios to be released.
If they release anything now Apple will patch it by the time they release the GM 5.0
Use sn0breeze to build a custom ios5 and keep your ipad Baseband. Done.
