After breaking my iPhone 4, I was borrowing my girlfriends iPhone 3GS until I upgraded to a new phone.

When using the phone I noticed it was always quite warm but never thought anything of it. Once I upgraded, I left the phone for about 2 weeks. When I went to return the 3GS today, I noticed that the back has bulged out and the screen has detached from the bezel plus the screen appears to be slightly warped as if it's been pressed against the glass.

Would it be worth my while to contact apple about a replacement or since its out of warranty would they not bother?

If you plan to use or sell it, I'd contact Apple about a replacement. It doesn't hurt to ask.

I was hoping at a long shot they might replace it. My dad has a 3GS and it's starting to fall apart so I'd probably give the replacement to him.

If I go to the apple store, what account will I use to make an appointment, my account or my girlfriends account as it was her phone?

I had an appointment about a month ago when my iPhone 4 broke but since I'd replaced the rear panel, they wouldn't touch it, would this have any implications on me making an appointment?

I literally just went to apple about this exact issue! They gave me a replacement for only $79.00 out of warranty, and it comes with a 90 day one.

You can use yours as long as you know your girlfriend's information. Your 4 shouldn't affect this phone's appointment, either.

It doesn't matter which account you use. They don't track the phones like that.

I'll make an appointment with Apple but if they are going to charge me to repair it, I'm going to leave it.
