Is it a new battery with more power or is the new hardware simply more efficient? Anyone know for sure?

I don't know for sure, but I believe the hardware is just more efficient. That's why 3G talk time is the same for the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3G S.

I believe the batter is better, and the reason 3G talk time is the same, is due to the new 3G network that transfers at twice the bandwidth rate.

I would agree with this.

It doesn't. The 7.2mbps network is only up in three across in the US right now. The vast majority of users are going to be transferring at the same old speed.

Yeah, so be sure to talk in 2G when you answer the phone so that you don't waste your battery...

:p

In the keynote speech, it was said that the battery now can get up 1000 charges before degrading. The current one is around 300 charges before degrading. I'd hazard a guess that the 3Gs has a newer battery in it.

300 charges??? is that for real? That means it won't last year if you charge everyday. Surely not.

EDIT: oh i see its for the macbook. well that is still pretty bad.

they won't tell you what makes it faster or the battery better, they'll just tell you REALLY GOOD STATISTICS

300 full charge cycles... topping off doesn't count as a full charge. 300 full charges should last about 3 years.
