Iphone 3GS bricked during IOS4 upgrade (error 1603/0XE8000065)

Hi,
I tried to upgrade my Iphone3GS to IOS 4.0, I come as far as to the status bar message "preparing the iphone for upgrade", after about 5 mins I get an error message (1603), when clicking on "details" it shows error "0XE8000065". I tried it in different USB ports, with different cables and on different computers (all Win7 x64), but always the same result.

DFU mode delivers same results

Hi,
I already tried DFU mode (and re-tried a minute ago) - I start from a black screen, itunes says "iphone in recovery mode detected" and from that point on it is the same as when I start with the itunes logo and the cable on the screen

It might be a prob with your computer, USB ports or itunes installed on the machine.
Try using a different computer to do the DFU restore to the latest 4.0

Hi, tried a different computer, again Win7 x64, same results: errors 1603 or 1604...

Tried it with a different computer today (again Win7 x64) - and it worked. Seems to be some weird USB issue with both of my computers at home
 
I am having the same exact problem with my daughter's iPhone. I have tried all the tips provided by Apple to include - changing ports, changing USB cords, creating a new profile, trying a different computer (tried it on both Mac and Windows), restarting my computer, resetting the iPhone sync history, removing the SIM card ... heck I even restarted the Apple Mobile Device Service (on my Windows computer). None of these have resolved the problem. Her phone was fully operational prior to my attempting to upgrade her OS.

If anyone has an alternate solution that I haven't tried, please please please let me know. We are scheduled to fly to Japan on Wednesday and she needs her phone for entertainment on the long flight.

Update: the updated Iphone with IOS 4.0 does now not show in Itunes (but recognized in Windows Device Manager) - it really seems to be an issue with the USB conncetion on some hardware configurations. I read many users reporting similar issues, hopefully Apple finallz recognizes this issue and provides a solution ASAP
