Iphone 3gs downgrade without SHSH??

I have always heard that there is NO WAY to downgrade your iphone 3gs with SHSH on file, but i just happened to come across this article that claims that irecovery can be used when downgrading.

Any 3GS already jailbroken (Pwnage Tool or Redsn0w only) with old bootrom (only) that can go into recovery mode can be restored to any custom restore IPSW as the security checks are bypassed.

Umm you mean this post to downgrade the 3gs not the 3G as in your link!

so what about 3GS that have never been jailbroken?

I think its a bunch of BS.
Maybe he had its SHSH's saved thru cydia and didnt know about it.
After you jump thru 20 hoops and run a bunch of programs its supposed to let you downgrade with no SHSH's verification on a new iboot 3GS?
If that was the case The Dev team and many other hacker groups would have that verified and made a tool thats far less involved and complicated than that.

Just curious if anyone tried. If it works, then maybe I'd downgrade then use pwnage tool to upgrade to 4.0.
