iPhone 3GS earpiece volume too low

I just bought a 16GB iPhone 3GS and so far have been mostly happy with it. The one problem I seem to be having is the volume for the earpiece is too low. I have it turned all the way up and it's still to low. I can barely hear anyone I'm on the phone with if there is any background noise. Is there a fix for this?

I'm wondering the same thing. It's very annoying. I know I'm not going deaf either.
