I've been given a 3gs, ios 3.1.3, baseband 05.12.01, new bootrom and have successfully jailbroken and unlocked it for my carrier.

I want to upgrade to the latest possible version of ios while still preserving baseband. I've done some reading and learnt about blobs and downloaded tinyumbrella 5.10.00. I saved the SHSH, but tinyumbrella reports "12/05/2011 14:59:00.983 You have saved your iPhone3GS 4.1 (8B117) SHSH locally and the request was sent to CYDIA. This means that CYDIA DOES have your SHSH."

Does this mean I can update to ios 4.1 and still preserve my baseband?

wat do?

Yes, you can upgrade to 4.1. However, in order to preserve its baseband, you need to cook a customs 4.1 firmware either by using sn0wbreeze or pwnage tool. You can't upgrade it to official Apple 4.1 because if you do, your phone baseband will also upgrade to 05.14 which can't be unlocked by Ultrasn0w.

sn0wbreeze did the trick, pointed gs.apple.com to 127.0.0.1 and served 4.1 blob on my local machine. The iTunes upgrade went without a hitch.

Thanks.
