iphone 3gs in recovery after update

i downloaded the update for ios4. clicked the download and install update, it started, backed up the phone, downloaded the update, started to load, then boom, "unknown error has occured" and put the iphone into recovery mode

This is with a 3gs, has anyone else had this issue?

Update, i tried to restore it, and it gives me an error when restoring it!? so now i have no damn phone!, awesome...

Yes im bumping this, i dont care, its at the bottum of the pasge after 2 minutes and i need my $^#^#$ phone for work!

was it hacktivated? do you have an active internet connection that doesnt lag?

no hacks, completely stock and yes a stable connection. It refuses to restore, i have a phone sitting here with a lit up screen thats black.
