Hi, I recently acquired a used IPhone from a friend and would like some help on unlocking it. I have seen different forums giving different information and was wondering if you could help me out...

-IPhone 3GS
-Version 5.1
-Modem Firmware 05.16.05
-First five digits of serial number 88016
-Bootrom Version [iBoot-359.3.2]
Any possibility of a Jailbreak + Unlock?

Thank you.

You can do a tethered jailbreak on iOS 5.1 or an untethered on anything else you have the SHSH blobs for. You can only unlock by installing the iPad baseband.

Okay, so is it possible to do a tethered jailbreak on 5.1 AND unlock by using the iPad baseband?

It should be. The unlock daemon that runs on the iPhone, ultrasn0w, may have to be updated for iOS 5.1 if it hasn't already.

So im guessing it is safe to go ahead, even if it needs to be updated?

Sorry for being such a Noob...
