Hoping someone can help...

I was recently given a 16GB iPhone 3GS that has the dreaded white screen, which seems to be the least of the problems for now. When plugged into my computer, itunes tells me that I need to restore because the phone is in recovery mode. I go through the restore process, and get the message at the end that the phone will show up in itunes after the phone restarts. Then, when the phone shows up in itunes again, I get the same message that it needs to be restored again. Tried on three different computers and get the same results on all three. Does anyone have any suggestions on a fix for this? There are no error codes , and because the screen is white, I can't see any progress on the phone itself.

I sure would appreciate it if someone could help me. Thanks in advance!
