Iphone 3GS Messages app crashing

I was on an Evasi0n 6.12 jailbreak and quite suddenly the Messages app stopped responding, when trying to open it would display a blank screen and then close, crash?

I decided to restore and update to 6.16 through iTunes and after the update finished Messages is still crashing.

What could cause this app to crash again after firmware restore and update? I'm referring to the Apple Message app, no other messaging app is installed, just the one that comes with the OS.

Any ideas that I can try?
