iPhone 3GS no carrier problem

I have an iPhone 3GS the carrier was originally AT&T , i updated the iPhone n had to activate it using a SIM card but i didnt have one so i bypassed it using redsnow but now it says no carrier ? How can i get back on AT&T , do i restore it n activate it with an AT&T aim card ? I need help
