iPhone 3GS on 3.1.3 With Old BootRom

1) What is the best way t JB?

2) Am I able to get JB on IOS4?

I just exchanged my other 3GS with apple today and this iPhone is on 3.1.3 with old bootrom.


What are my options?

I have tmobile by the way:D
 
If op never JB this device nefore there is no reason to go near spirit if he wants to jailbreak 4.0 as long as he has the old bootrom if he has the new one he is sol tight now on 4.0

I'm not on 4.0. I just got a replacement from apple iphone 3gs that is on 3.1.3. Best way to go about jb and unlocking so I can use on 3.1.3? Or if I can, jb and unlock on 4.0. It has the old bootrom btw

my 4th and 5th numbers are 25 and my model # starts with MB

if you want to keep 3.1.3 use spirit

if 4.0 go with PwnageTool 4.01 Mac or Sn0wbreeze PC but if you are going too 4.0 stay away from Spirit! this is only if you have the old bootrom & MB is no indicator of bootrom that's a myth or BS! only way to know is in DFU mode http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-check-iphone-3gs-bootrom-iboot-version/
 
Well, I had 4.0 on my last 3gs but couldn't use it since I have tmobile. Since I swapped out the old 3gs for a new with 3.1.3.....I wanted to stick with 4.0 but If I can't, I'll settle for 3.1.3 until jb comes out for 4.0

He has to be already JB (pwned) with either redsnow,pwnage or blackrain to update to custom JB 4.0 IPSW in order to unlock for tmobile.
He cannot do that with stock 3.1.3 or 3.1.3 JB with spirit though.

sorry I thought he was clean because he said he exchanged it. I thought he hadn't JB the one he exchanged. Applejuiced is correct once again :p
 
I keep hearing about "stay away from spirit." What's the problem when using spirit?

Actually couldn't he just follow the guide oren1 just mentioned (using spirit2pwn) to get his device to custom JB 4.0, then unlock his phone using ultrasn0w? Isn't that what he wanted to accomplish all along?

Assuming, of course, he has the old bootrom.

What is the 3rd digit of your serial number?
 
I have a 3GS jailbroken on 3.1.2, Spirit WASNT used to jb, I want to upgrade to 4.0

what do I use? RedSnow or Sn0wBreeze?
 
In the OP's case

Spirit to JB 3.1.3
SHSH in Cydia
Use spirit2pwn in Cydia to fix the Spirit JB
Download stock iOS4 (from iClarified or other reliable sources)
Use Pwnage Tool 4.0.1 to upgrade to custom ipsw
Use Ultrasn0w to unlock

DONE!

I just did this :D
 
1. jailbreak 3.1.3 with spirit using itunes 9.1
2. Use cydia or tinyumbrella to save your SHSH hashes
3. Wait till the cydia program says that your shsh is on file for 3.1.3
4. use sprit2pwn on your phone
5. Restore a pwned ios4 image in dfu mode, not recovery
 
This Spirit2pwn thing is new, so not very many know of it or trust it.

Many are reporting it does work, however.

iH8sn0w WARNING : New Bootrom users MUST NOT install Spirit2Pwn. It flashes the NOR for old bootroms! You will go into a dfu loop.

How do I use cydia to save my shsh for 3.1.3?

I have a mac btw

I just downloaded a cooked 4.0 ipsw and did an option + restore in itunes, but got the 1604 error.

is the problem that the phone was previously jb with spirit?

EDIT: and now my 3gs is stuck on the connect to itunes screen. when i do that, its telling me i have to update to 4.0 and restore. maybe its bc the sim in the 3gs isnt active (ive since upgraded to ip4).

Ok, another update.

I got the phone out of the connect to itunes screen by running blackrain.

Then I realized that the phone is actually jailbroken with blackrain, not spirit.

But for some reason, I still cant upgrade to 4.0. I used pwnage tool 4.01 to create a custom ipsw of 4.0, but when I try to restore the phone to it in itunes, it gets stuck on 'preparing iphone for restore' and after about 5 minutes, i get the error message 'iphone could not be restored - unknown error (1604).'

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Again, this is a 3gs on 3.1.3 with old bootrom.
