Hi Guys,

I'm trying to help to friend. She have 3 year old boy and 3 years worth of pictures of him on the 3gs. Unfortunately the phone was dropped and screen was cracked (all black) she managed to put passcode lock so many times incorrectly that the device got locked.

She got screen replaced but now it says - Phone is locked please connect to iTunes. When connecting iTunes only restore is available.

The most important thing is to take those pictures of the phone!

Any thoughts what I could try to get them off the phone?

She never synced the phone with iTunes (maybe once initially not even on her PC)

Is it windows? Open My Computer and click on the iPhone, youll find the pics in a folder. This is with the phone connected.

I'm on the mac and I was trying DiscAid and iPhone Explorer, PhoneView and all of them are showing that iPhone is passcode locked. I know the passcode but while screen was broken she put this so many times that now it doesn't even let you put passcode it just asks for iTunes.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but...
If you simply see the 'Connect to iTunes' with a USB plug and the iTunes icon, its more than likely that she had the option to 'erase content after 10 failed passcode attempts' checked when she set up her passcode. By entering the code so many times she may have inadvertently deleted the pics herself... along with everything else.
I hope this isn't the case and that she does get her photos back but if you connect it to iTunes and the only option is to restore there may not be anything left on the phone already...

That shouldn't be the case as phone has her custom wallpaper and has still alarms are set. Phone is showing "iPhone is locked connect with iTunes" and after connecting through USB i get "iTunes could not connect to iPhone..." al below:

As I said I know the passcode but I can't put that in :(

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8H7 Safari/6533.18.5)

Take it to the Apple Store and explain it to them, maybe they can do something.

I can recover the pictures, but it is something I'd need physical access to the phone to do.

With the proper tools they can *probably* still be recovered. If erase content flag was enable they might be gone. I can't say without physical access to the device.
