Iphone 3gs pay as you go plan question

I have acquired a iphone 3gs unlocked. I am new to atnt and would like to set up a plan with unlimited text. Can I do pay as you go for 3gs without the data plan? I would just like to use data when I'm on wifi.

I think you would be better served to go with Boost Mobile, in my opinion, as they have an unlimited text, web & voice plan for $50 a month (includes all taxes, etc.) All that you need to do is order their starter kit.
