Good day everyone. Not sure if it's the right forum for hardware-related questions like this, but anyway, here goes the story.
There's an iPhone 3GS (8 GB, if it matters) after a major accident - its former owner claims the device fell out of the window of a speeding car and got crushed by traffic, but its electronics somehow survived. It was out of warranty, so Apple refused to deal with it. Got the screen replaced, but there are still issues.
1. Power button - there's no way I can turn the phone on with it, only connecting to a charger or PC helps, yet I can shut the phone down with it with no problem. The ribbon part is functional - the power button does have 3V on its contacts even in standby, and the voltage drops when it's pressed. Other buttons and mute switch are operational as well, so it's not the ribbon. What else could it be?
2. Even if I manage to turn it on, it enters an infinite loop. After it boots, it shows the "activation required" message, but does not recognize the computer it's connected to ("charging is not supported with this accessory"). iTunes can't see it as well, but the OS itself detects it as a digital camera and allows me to download photos from memory. After 80 seconds (yes, I did measure. 5 times) screen blinks bright white, the phone reboots and it all starts again. Obviously, it's not software failure, but no idea what could cause it. Replaced the battery just to be sure, no result.
So does anybody have an idea what to do, apart from buying a new iPhone, of course?
P.S. Sorry for my English.
