I'm assuming once the new iPhone is released, the current 3GS and 3G models' prices will drop. The iPhone 4G/HD will undoubtedly be sold at 199.99, and most likely the 16GB 3GS at 99. Do you think the 3G model then will be sold for free on contract? According to sources at AT&T they still have a large amount of 3G models in stock.

Doubt you'll ever see a free iPhone. It's about perception value and Apple would never want their product perceived in that way.

I strongly believe that the 3G will not be sold anymore. There are just too many things in the 4.0 OS that it won't be able to do. There's no way they'll keep selling it.

I'm certain that the 3GS will be the new $99 phone.

Whether it is an 8 GB or a 16 GB model, I'm not sure. I could see it going either way. It would be easier for them to afford a 16 GB chip, but at the same time I could argue that having be 8 GB would give more incentive for people to be upsold to the $199 phone.

So I'm not so sure on the size. But, no, the 3G won't be sold anymore.

I have to agree. The 3G model will probably be dropped completely, with the 3Gs becoming the new Value-Oriented choice. Thus, I would expect the 3Gs to be $99 very soon...

Agreed, I don't see the 3G being sold any more either.

The leftover stock of the 3g will be cheap though?

If a 8gb 3g referb can be purchased for $49.... Thats pretty close to free...
