iPhone 3GS Question Out of Warranty

My son has my old 3GS out of waranty well the 1 year expired and I did not buy Applecare. It seems his audio jack is messed up because it keeps "telling him that the Apple headphones are not made to work with this device" but his headphone jack is the only issue.

I am guessing they wil fix or replace it, question is do they charge me $199 for a whole new phone if the jack is bad, or will they just fix the jack?

They don't fix them. It would be a whole phone for 199.

Depending on how brave/tech savvy you are, you can do it yourself for ~$50.

Other than that you could send it elsewhere to be repaired. Iresq looks like they do it for $70. But try searching around for prices if you decide to go that route.
