Hello all,

After countless searching on the internet I have finally given up and just now signed up to this forum to see if anyone is able to help.

Basically ages ago I jailbroke my iphone 3gs with firmware 4.2.1 using redsn0w 0.9.6b5 giving it the ipad baseband. The jailbreaking worked fine. As did cydia and everything else. Whenever the battery would die as im sure you all know i would plug it into my computer and boot tethered using redsn0w. I have done it countless times.

However...normally when the battery has died upon plugging it in the low battery logo comes up.. in which case i normally wait a few minutes, put into dfu mode and boot tethered. But for the first time the apple logo shows and then shows the itunes recovery logo.

If I unplug the iphone the screen immediatly goes blank. Upon plugging it back in it just repeats the above.

If I put the phone into dfu mode and try boot tethered using redsnow like i would normally it all works fine until redsn0w says "done" and the pineapple logo comes up for about 5 seconds before the phone reboots and does the above again..apple logo > recovery logo.

If i just leave the phone with the recovery logo up after 5 minutes or so it will reboot and again shows apple logo > recovery logo.. like its on a 5 minute loop.

I have tried putting the phone into dfu mode and restoring it normally.. or with a custom firmware 4.2.1 in itunes... both come back with the error "unable to restore.. unknown error occurred (1611)"

Also when I plug the iphone into my computer it comes up in itunes saying "itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. you must restore before using with itunes". It also shows its plugged in as it successfully enters dfu mode with redsn0w and iREB.

However the iphone does not show up in my computer. Nor in tinyumbrella, which i have used to try get it out of recovery mode.

Finally I am using windows vista 64bit. Itunes is up to date on itunes 10. I got the custom firmware off the internet after googling. I found 4 different download sites, all with the same named, sized file so i dont think i have the wrong ipsw.

I gather this is a long message and give huge thanks and appreciation to anyone who might be able to help.

Thank you
