iPhone 3GS Restore Freeze

I am trying to jailbreak and unlock my iPhone 3GS 8GB iOS5 BB05.16.05 by following this link http://www.howtoarena.com/unlock-iphone-3gs-ios-5-baseband-05-16-05/

When i tried to restore firmware 4.1 under DFU mode, the restore freezes. The progress bar on iTune and iPhone doesn't move at all. Why? Can somebody help

Some has claimed that this problem is due to wifi sync. I have uninstalled it but the problem still there. Can please someone help?
 
Can you give the first 5 digits of your serial? You may not be able to unlock since Apple changed their baseband chips on newer 3GS models.

Hi, how can I view my serial now since it's under recovery mode or DFU mode?

Serial of 3GS phone has nothing to do with downgrading this phone to 4.1 fw.

Reboot your computer and retry. If it is still freeze, try it on another PC. Usually, it takes a while to prepare Iphone for restore but one it is going, it is not freezing.
 
And going by that, your phone should be unlockable because it was made the first week of 2011.

It could be that the IPSW file is corrupted?

But he wants to unlock the phone. Its better to check if its even possible to unlock the phone without bricking it.

Thanks I am downloading firmware 4.1 from iClarified to try again.

Btw, can I downgrade to firmware 4.3.3 instead of 4.1 when i want to unlock this iPhone 3GS?

If you have the SHSH blobs you can downgrade to 4.3.3. If not, 4.1 is your only option.
