I recently upgraded a perfectly performing iPhone 3GS to iOS 6.
At first everything was great. That is, until I went to use the phone and it'd gone to recovery mode (the "connect to iTunes" screen). So I restored it through iTunes and it was business as usual - until a couple of days after that, when again I went to use it and it'd gone to recovery mode again.
Since then I've done two more restores. The phone will go for about two days before going to recovery mode.
EDIT: Tried restoring without using old backup; tried DFU Mode, tried it without the SIM card.... nope.
Apple have offered to repair it - for about 50% more than a good used 3GS costs! Which is kind of rich, since if I'd steered well clear of that tempting iOS 6 upgrade I'd have been OK!
