iPhone 3GS. Unlock possible?

I got a friends iPhone 3GS. It was already in recovery mode. I restored it to a 4.0 firmware.

Now I can't use it, as it says the "Sim is Not Supported". Obviously I need an unlock. Could Sn0wbreeze possibly work?

If you have teh SHSH blobs saved on Cydia then you are golden. Otherwise you are stuck at 4.0

If you had them saved, You can restore back to 3.1.2, jailbreak and update using the proper method - a tweaked 4.0 IPSW

He's only golden if his 3GS has the old bootrom.
