Just recently I got an iPhone 3GS after a family member upgraded to the iPhone 4. I am confused on how to access my iTunes content. It seems hit or miss for me to find it and is it best to do that through iTunes on the phone or through the iPod app? Family member doesn't use either so they cannot answer my question.

On the phone the iTunes app connects to the iTunes Store where you would purchase music/tv shows. For playing back that content or any media that you synced from you iTunes library you can find that in the iPod app.
